So close and yet so far

I don't know what's got into me, but I can't stop thinking about the breakfast sandwich from Red's Java House. It's just across the street. I'll burn calories walking there...

Dance monkey! Dance!

"I'm not your fucking monkey!"

That sentence pretty much sums up my feelings about tonight's UCSF tubby group meeting.

Can he do it? Can he? Can he?

Hitting the diet reset button. Do over.

I'm wiping the Fatty! Fat! Fat! weight loss slate clean and starting all over.  New starting weight.  New weight loss goal.  On 7/16/13, I tipped the scales at 265.4 lbs.  According to UCSF's Step-by-Step program, I need to shed 10% of my body weight (or 26.5 lbs for those of you who have difficulty with math).  Once I reach my goal weight of 238.9 lbs, I can choose to receive a new a new weight loss goal (another 10% or 23.9lbs) or work on maintaining the original goal weight.

I'm off to a good start.  As of yesterday, I'm down 5.5 lbs.

It's not JUST 10 minutes...It's 10 minutes for ME.

A little over a month ago, I did something incredibly dumb but fun.  I jumped off of a 6 ft. wall and contused my knee joint.  I stuck the landing like Nadia Comaneci, but could barely walk afterwards.  I've been in PT for about a month and a half, trying to get my knee to return to its former glory.  It hasn't been easy.  The swelling doesn't seem to want to go down and the damn thing is grumpier than my dog in the morning.

My most recent follow-up visit with the orthopedic surgeon resulted in additional PT appointments and an order to ride a bike for THIRTY minutes daily.  I know getting on the bike will make my knee feel tremendously better, but I couldn't seem to bring myself to do it...until today.  Yesterday, I went to have my first one-on-one session with UCSF's obesity clinic's psychologist.  While the jury is still out on her (my thoughts on our first meeting and subsequent session might border on a blog novel) - she helped me overcome an exercise barrier I kept bumping up against by simply pointing out my priorities can be a bit skewed when it comes to taking out time and doing something good for me.  She suggested (and I actually listened) instead of trying to immediately attempt 30 minutes of exercise, I should get on the bike for just 10 minutes.  So, that's what I did this morning.  I got my butt on that bike and pedaled my way to relief from knee discomfort in 10 minutes.

Tomorrow I'm going to get back on that bike and ride three more minutes for me.

Not the best food decision.

I stopped by the Cheesesteak Shop before heading over to meet with my food behaviorist.  Nothing screams stress eater quite like a seven inch mushroom cheesesteak and housemade potato chips.
